El partido empezo con un ritmo anotador frenetico, especialmente por parte de un Laboral Kutxa muy acertado en el tiro (9/12 de dos y 2/4 triples en el primer cuarto) y que no se inmuto a pesar de perder a su referente interior Tibor Pleiss con dos personales (y desaparecido ya el resto del partido). Hamilton y Nocioni le cogieron el relevo anotando cerca de la canasta y dominando la pintura ante el juego interior verdinegro (5-10). La entrada en escena de Guillem Vives (2 triples) y de Shurna despertaron a la Penya (13-12), pero la segunda falta del base mermo a los de Salva Maldonado y devolvio la iniciativa al Laboral Kutxa (18-24). El dominio visitante crecio en el segundo periodo, con Milko Bjelica (9 puntos) y San Emeterio (7) como estiletes y aprovechando los minutos en pista del joven base verdinegro Agusti Sans, que sufrio ante la presion defensiva de los vitorianos. El Laboral Kutxa consiguio abrir brecha en el marcador y colocarse 11 puntos arriba (26-37), pero entonces llegaron los triples de la Penya y especialmente de John Shurna (12 puntos al descanso) para mantener vivo al conjunto de Salva Maldonado (42-47). Un Shurna que incluso metio un triple sobre la bocina que los arbitros anularon tras revisar la jugada y que en la reanudacion continuo con su festival desde la linea de 6,75, con dos canastas mas que obligaron a Sergio Scariolo a pedir tiempo muerto con la Penya de nuevo por delante (51-47). Scariolo probo una zona para parar el vendaval verdinegro, pero no lo consiguio. La Penya, con Kirksay sumandose a Vives y Shurna, clavo un parcial de 22-2 que dejo 'k.o.' a los vitorianos (64-49, con una sola canasta en ocho minutos). Mainoldi, con un triple, rompio el parcial, pero la Penya, inspiradisima en el tiro exterior (5/8 triples en este cuarto), estaba desatada (69-52) y llego a ganar por 19 puntos (80-61).
