Les textes, parfois violents, sont percutants. Rue89 en publie quatre. Aux checkpoints israeliens, beaucoup de soldats ont encore des visages d’enfants et portent en bandouliere des armes bien plus grandes qu’eux. En Israel, le service militaire est obligatoire des la majorite : il dure minimum 22 mois pour les filles, trois ans pour les garcons. Ca represente beaucoup de temps quand on a 20 ans. Yehuda Shaul etait l’un d’entre eux, entre 2001 et 2004. Apres des etudes dans le lycee talmudique d’une colonie juive de Cisjordanie, il a servi trois ans dans le 50e bataillon de la Brigade Nahal. Choque par ce qu’il a vecu, il a fonde « Breaking the silence » (briser le silence) : l’association israelienne recueille et publie des temoignages de soldats, officiers et sous-officiers de Tsahal. « Le livre noir de l’occupation israelienne », Ed. Autrement, 2013 Des centaines de recits, collectes et verifies par l’ONG, qui denoncent « l’occupation » et decrivent les actions de l’armee dans les Territoires, depuis la Seconde Intifada (2000). Un recueil de temoignages bruts, traduits en francais, vient de paraitre sous le titre « Le Livre noir de l’occupation israelienne » (Ed. Autrement, octobre 2013). Les briseurs de silence disent vouloir montrer la verite, faire du bruit pour lutter contre l’occupation. « On dit, “he les gars il y a une occupation, regardez ce qu’on est en train de faire” », explique Yehuda Shaul sur France 24. Entretien avec Yehuda Shaul sur France 24, en octobre 2013Destructions arbitraires de maisons palestiniennes, arrestations, violences, humiliations... les temoignages, bien que non exhaustifs, sont eclairants sur le mode operatoire de l’armee dans les Territoires. Le tout empreint de violence faite, vue ou ressentie. « Je me suis senti, moi et quelques autres, dans un moment de frenesie, a casser des tables, des portes, a jeter des tas et des tas de papiers dans chaque piece, des trucs comme ca. La folie interieure se libere, juste parce que tu peux, je dirais. » (p. Il y a aussi dans ces recits des coups, des pierres, du sang, des morts. Mais ce qui est precieux et rare, dans tous ces temoignages, c’est de decouvrir le regard des soldats sur leurs propres actions et sur ce qui les depasse. L’une a ete marquee par Moussa, un civil palestinien de 22 ans, avec qui elle a discute plusieurs fois sur le pont Allenby. « Il m’a regarde dans les yeux et il m’a dit : “Je vis dans une prison, je ne peux pas aller a la mer, je veux aller a Tel Aviv, acheter des choses pour ma femme.” Et ca te ronge de l’interieur. Des mots pareils, une situation pareille, tu commences a changer de point de vue. C’est-a-dire, quand je suis arrivee, je me suis engagee dans l’armee tres... je ne sais pas si on peut dire de droite, mais tres motivee... je voulais tout faire pour... Et ton service seme le doute, avec ce que j’ai vecu, j’ai commence a mettre les choses en doute. » (p. D’autres recits parlent de culpabilite – « j’ai honte » – ou d’humanite. Plusieurs soldats disent aussi que les souvenirs les relancent sans cesse. Rue89 a selectionne et publie quatre temoignages, extraits du « Livre noir de l’occupation israelienne », avec l’aimable autorisation des editions Autrement. 1« J’ai juste fait du mal a quelqu’un. Bataillon Lavi, dans les collines d’Hebron Sud, en 2003.« Il y a eu un incident dont je pense que c’est le plus... c’est le truc que je regrette le plus. C’est la pire chose que j’ai faite pendant tout mon service dans les Territoires. Il y avait ce type qui venait de Yatta et qui voulait passer un barrage. Il se rendait de Yatta a Hebron, a la laiterie. Il y avait un camion plein de recipients pour le lait. Je crois qu’il y avait un couvre-feu a Hebron a ce moment-la. Bref, il n’avait pas le droit de passer. Je l’ai attrape au moment ou il franchissait le barrage, c’etait la troisieme fois de la semaine que j’attrapais le meme type – dans des circonstances differentes, mais le meme type, plus ou moins au meme endroit. J’ai un peu pete les plombs, parce que je l’ai fait sortir... je lui ai dit de descendre du vehicule et tout, mais il s’est mis a protester et a crier, alors j’ai tout de suite fait deux choses : j’ai sorti les menottes et le bandeau. Je suis monte dans la jeep et je l’a amene a la porte. Il etait, je ne sais pas, 10 heures du matin, quelque chose comme ca... et je l’ai relache entre 11 heures et 1 heure du matin. C’est-a-dire, c’etait l’ete... c’est-a-dire, toute la journee. Il avait genre 2 000 litres de lait avec lui et tout a tourne. Ca a dure toute la journee, il est reste a la porte avec les yeux bandes et les mains attachees. Quand j’y repense maintenant, j’ai honte pour deux raisons. Premierement, pour la maniere dont j’ai traite un autre etre humain. Attraper un homme et prendre le controle de sa vie comme ca ? [...] Je l’ai emmene comme un prisonnier, attache. Et personne d’autre n’etait responsable de ca. Ce n’est pas comme si j’avais recu des ordres, vous voyez ? Non, c’est ce que j’ai decide de faire. Et c’etait acceptable. Du point de vue de tous mes superieurs, il n’y avait pas de probleme. OK, tu as arrete quelqu’un, voila comment tu as traite un autre etre humain, mais le fait est qu’il y avait aussi des biens, c’est-a-dire du lait. Quelque chose qui avait une valeur financiere a ete perdu. [... Ce n’est pas un terroriste, il n’etait pas recherche, il ne s’en est pas pris a moi, il ne m’a pas menace avec une arme. C’est un type normal. Quelle etait l’utilite de ce que j’ai fait ? Aucune. Est-ce que ca a contribue a la securite de l’Etat ? Non. J’ai juste fait du mal a quelqu’un. Et ca ne va pas. Brigade Nahal, a Hebron, en 2002.« Il y a cette maison qu’on a investie a Hebron... on l’a prise. Vous connaissez la procedure : la famille descend d’un etage. Qu’est-ce qu’on a fait ? On etait... au troisieme etage, les gars ont installe un tuyau pour pouvoir pisser dehors. Ils ont mis le tuyau, on l’a installe exactement de maniere a ce que la pisse coule dans la cour de la maison en dessous de nous. Il y avait quelques poulaillers, ca coulait dessus. Tous les jours, c’etait la blague, attendre que le pere ou l’un des gamins aille au poulailler et tout le monde se mettait a pisser. Ou bien je me rappelle un ami qui aimait se laver les dents et la bouche avec le bidon puis attendre que quelqu’un passe en bas pour leur cracher dessus. Ca fait partie de... Ca fait partie des choses que tu peux faire, ouais, tu peux faire ca. Personne ne t’en empechera, pas meme les grades sur le terrain, parce que en general ils font partie du consensus, pas des exceptions. C’est un truc qu’on peut faire. Tu peux, a toi de decider si tu le fais ou pas. Il n’y a pas de juge, de jugement. Personne ne te jugera pour ca. Brigade Nahal, a Hebron, en 2009.« Une fois, on a fait une arrestation. Ils jetaient des pierres place Gross, on a ete alertes et ce gamin est apparu. [... 15 ans, il s’appelait Daoud. Donc on l’a arrete. On est descendus de notre vehicule, on lui a couru apres, il etait completement sous le choc. On l’a emmene a Gross, du cote juif, et il s’est mis a pleurer, a hurler en se roulant par terre, tout plein de sueur et de larmes. On ne pouvait rien faire de lui, d’un coup on se retrouvait avec un gamin en pleurs sur les bras, alors que quelques secondes plus tot il jetait des tuiles a Gross, tu meurs d’envie de le reduire en bouillie, on t’a appele dans cette chaleur dementielle. Tu as envie de le tuer mais il pleure. Comme on ne savait pas quoi faire, on l’a garde a tour de role parce que tout le monde craquait quand on restait avec lui, alors on tentait quelque chose puis on partait. A un moment, j’etais avec lui, j’essayais de le calmer parce qu’il etait attache, les yeux bandes, il pleurait, ca lui coulait sur le visage. J’ai commence a le secouer : “Tais-toi, tais-toi, ca suffit maintenant !” Puis on l’a emmene au poste de police, il pleurait encore et les flics ne voulaient pas l’interroger. Ils ne voulaient pas de lui, c’etait tellement agacant, absurde. Au milieu de toute cette pagaille, alors qu’il se roule par terre, le type des communications sort son Motorola. [...] Boum, un coup sur la tete. Il ne voulait pas lui faire de mal. C’etait juste apres deux heures de pleurs insupportables. [...] Je me rappelle, on les detestait. Je les detestais. J’etais tellement raciste, la-bas, j’etais en colere contre leur salete, leur misere, toute la putain de cette situation [...] On a fini par le detacher parce qu’il pleurait, il nous suppliait. Il criait, il etait trempe de sueur, de morve, de larmes. Tu ne sais plus quoi faire. On l’a secoue par desespoir. Ce n’etait pas particulierement violent. Je pense qu’on s’est meme mis a rire, meme maintenant quand j’y repense, dans cette situation tu es completement perdu. Unite Nahal, a Hebron, en 2009.« Les gars de l’equipe de commandement avance... nous disaient tout le temps qu’ils frappaient des Arabes pour rire. En patrouille... ils les frappent tout le temps, mais il y a eu une fois en particulier... Un jour, on a recu une alerte. [...] On s’est rendus au checkpoint de la pharmacie. Il y avait deux ou trois gamins qui refusaient de passer par le detecteur de metaux. On a arrete la jeep, il est descendu et a emmene un garcon dans une ruelle. [... Il... Je le vois comme dans un film. Il s’est mis face au gamin, qui etait tout pres du mur, il s’est mis face a lui, l’a regarde une seconde puis il l’a etrangle avec le... il l’a tenu comme ca avec son coude. [... Il l’a etrangle contre le mur. Le gamin s’est enrage, le commandant lui hurlait dessus, en hebreu, pas en arabe. Puis il l’a relache. Le gamin a leve les mains pour s’essuyer les yeux, et le commandant l’a frappe. Le gamin a laisse retomber ses bras, il a arrete de se frotter les yeux. Il a garde les mains le long du corps, puis les gifles ont commence. De plus en plus. Des coups. Et des cris. Le gamin s’est mis a hurler, ca faisait peur, les gens se sont mis a contourner le checkpoint pour regarder dans la ruelle. Je me rappelle que le commandant est sorti en disant : “C’est bon, tout va bien.” Il a crie au gamin : “Bouge pas, reste la.” Il est sorti en disant que tout allait bien, il a appele le commandant d’escouade du checkpoint, il s’est mis face au gamin et il a dit : “Voila comment on s’occupe d’eux.” Puis il a encore donne deux claques au gamin et l’a laisse partir. C’est une histoire folle, je me rappelle que je suis reste dans le vehicule, a regarder, et que je me suis dit : j’ai attendu une situation comme celle-la pendant trois ans. Depuis le jour ou je me suis engage, je voulais empecher ce genre de chose, et voila que je ne fais rien, que je choisis de ne rien faire. Est-ce que c’est acceptable ? Ce n’est pas propre au conflit israelo-palestinien, on retrouve ce type de situation (et ce type de remords, voire de traumatisme) dans a peu pres tous les cas ou une armee reguliere d’un pays democratique se confronte a des populations dans des conditions tres peu democratiques. On peut supposer que cela tient au grand ecart qui est inflige entre la posture politique du pays (souvent presentee sous un jour moral) et sa posture militaire. Il est egalement remarquable de noter que les soldats choques sont toujours tres minoritaires, mais que ce sont ceux-la qui sauvent l’honneur. La banalite du bien, en quelque sorte. musique du monde C’est vrai que nous autres, les Francais, avec l’experience que nous avions en Indochine et en Algerie, nous sommes aptes a comprendre ces soldats israeliens et leurs temoignages. The nationwide ‘Run for Unity’ was flagged off by Narendra Modi in connection with the construction of the "Statue of Unity" of Sardar Bhalabhai Patel, the world's largest statue at Narmada Sarovar Dam, Gujarat was also flagged organized by the BJP Manipur Mandal at 8 am. He pointed out that there is no Congress in the major states of India such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Bihar, UP, West Bengal etc. Addressing the party supporters, RK Ranjan Singh said BJP will provide under the leadership of Narendra Modi people oriented and transparent governance. Prof Gangmumei Kamei said that Sardar Bhalabhai Patel is the symbol of a united and strong India and change which is also the slogan of the party’s Prime Minister candidate Narendra Modi. He cited that the purpose of politics is to give good governance to the citizens of the country which means development and not corruption. During visits to the interior parts of the state including the hill districts, it was observed that there is no visible development, even in the district headquarters, Prof Gangmumei mentioned and further continued to request the people to elect BJP candidates to usher in an era of change. President of state Minority Morcha, Najir Husain said that he joined BJP in 2006 and has visited 22 states for official matters of the party and found that BJP is more democratic and secular than the other so called secular parties. Print | E-mail Nutley's first major snowstorm of the season dumped 6.5 inches in town. Jim Chambers of Villa Place in Nutley shovels his property Sunday after a brief morning ski trip to Mountain Creek. Nutley Public Works Commissioner Joseph Scarpelli said Public Works crews worked throughout the night until 5 a.m. As of 9 a.m. Sunday, he said trucks were back out salting and "cleaning up. Nutley Mayor Alphonse Petracco said that a couple inches of ice topped the snow, making roads "very slippery" on Sunday. "The township departments did a great job," Petracco said. "I saw plows out late last night working hard. Petracco urged residents to be alert on streets and sidewalks for black ice. He also cautioned about re-freezing on Sunday night when temperatures are slated to drop. Nutley Police Chief Thomas Strumolo said the roads were mostly slushy by Sunday. He said there were three minor accidents on Saturday and one on Sunday morning. The Public Affairs Building was open as a warming center in the event of power outages or other emergency. by B.B. CLEVELAND’S?KORAN?KENNEDY defeated his Pope High School opponent 5-3 in overtime Saturday at the Cleveland Duals. Undefeated Archer High School (Ga.) showed why it is No. 23 in the nation as the Tigers went 5-0 to win the Al Miller-Cleveland Duals Saturday. The Tigers (15-0) defeated Heritage (Ga. "We had a good day and this tournament is a good test for us," said Archer coach Tom Beuglas. Host Cleveland defeated Father Ryan, 37-31, in the third-place match as Blue Raider 285-pounder John Gaither registered a pin to claim the team victory in the final match. "I am proud of our guys as we stepped it up in the Ryan match and found a way to win," said Cleveland coach Jake Yost. It's tough to beat a real good team two times in two days. Yost pointed to the 220 match as Koran Kennedy won Saturday, after losing Friday. "That was a huge win for us, as Koran lost on Friday but turned it around today. Cleveland's Chris DeBien (126), Austin Stevison (132) and Ethan West (195) went 5-0 on the day. Highlighted by pins from Austin Stevison (132), Aaron Oliver (160) and John Gaither (285), the top-ranked Cleveland wrestlers rallied to beat No. 2 Father Ryan, 31-29, Friday night at the Jones Wrestling Arena. Trailing by seven (25-18) with four matches remaining, the Blue Raiders gained 10 points from state champs via a major decision (Chris DeBien, 126) and a fall (Stevison) for a 28-25 advantage and another three on a regular decision (7-2) by Ezra Taylor (138) to lead 31-25. In the final match of the night at 145, Ryan’s Marcelo Morrice posted a 10-1 major decision, but the Purple Irish needed a fall to tie and go to criteria. “In a dual match with two evenly matched teams, pins are so important and Cleveland had three to our two and that was the difference,” said Ryan coach Pat Simpson. “It’s good to go against one of the best in the state and see where you are in mid-December. Starting at 152, Ryan opened the match at 152 with a first period fall by James Simpson, but that 6-0 lead was quickly countered at 160 as Oliver turned a 2-2 match into a second period pin (3:20) and a 6-6 tie for the host team. The two teams split the next four weights with Ryan leading 13-12. Gaither's pin gave Cleveland an 18-13 lead at the halfway mark, only to see Ryan win the next three for 12 points for a 25-18 lead. The hosts only gave up the one pin by Raymond Eason (106) before posting three in a row themselves – a major, fall and decision – for 13 points and a 31-25 lead. “We found a way to get bonus points, including Aaron Oliver’s huge win at 160 (pin), Austin Stevison’s pin at 132 and the in the final match Will Haas fought hard and got off his back in the second period (lost by a major decision) as Ryan picked up four points and not six to win by two points,” said Cleveland coach Jake Yost. In memoriam: Prior to the match, former Cleveland coach Duane Shriver honored two deceased Blue Raider wrestlers. The Cleveland wrestling program lost two of its own in the last 12 months. State champion and state Outstanding Wrestler Jeff Howard was killed in an automobile accident this time last year as he and his father were on the way to the Cleveland-Father Ryan match. A couple of months later, Howard’s 1977 teammate Mike Shealy passed away. They were co-captains and part of Cleveland’s first district and region championship teams. Howard was a state champ and All-American, Shealy was a district and region champ.
